The Basics

Option #5

I wish to SEND material developed exclusively at a company or non-UCSD facility:

  1. Complete the "I wish to SEND material developed exclusively at a company or non-UCSD facility - Option #5" form:

Please Note: Only the academic in charge of the laboratory is authorized to, and may request transfers of research materials. If this is not the same individual as the Principal Investigator, who will be listed on the form, the academic who is in charge of the laboratory must sign the form as well.

  1. Animal Subjects (IACUC): If a live animal or animal tissue is to sent by UCSD, make sure that an Animal Use Protocol or Tissue Transfer has been, or is in the process of being, approved by the UCSD Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).  Additional information regarding Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) can be found by calling 858-534-6069.

  2. Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S): If the material to be sent by UCSD is potentially bio-hazardous, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, recombinant DNA, transgenic plants, transgenic animals, invertebrates, insects, etc., Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) approval may be required. Additional information regarding the Institutional Biosafety Committee/Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) can be found by calling 858-534-3660.

What happens next? Once the completed form is received, a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) will be drafted and forwarded to the recipient organization for review and signature. UCSD will contact the owner of the Material to obtain permission to send the Material to the recipient. A fully-executed copy of the MTA will then be sent to the UCSD Principal Investigator. The material should not be sent prior to receiving a fully-executed copy of the MTA.

The review and negotiation of the Material Transfer Agreement is conducted concurrently with the approval process for Animal Subjects and Environment, Health and Safety.
