The Basics

Option #1

I wish to send materials using QuickSend:

QuickSend is an informal Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) that may be used by a UCSD Principal Investigator, without HHMI affiliation, only when ALL of the following criteria are met:

  1. The Material will be transferred to a recipient who:

    1. is a Principal Investigator in a non-profit and/or educational research institution only; and

    2. plans to use the Material for non-commercial academic research purposes only; and

    3. will not use the Material for research, testing, or treatment involving human subjects or for making any decisions relating to human diagnosis or care.

  2. The Material was:

    1. created at UCSD under the supervision of a UCSD Principal Investigator; does not contain, in whole or in part, any material(s) that was received from another party under an agreement (e.g., other Material Transfer Agreements, sponsored research agreements, or commercial purchases with limitations) that prohibits redistribution or further transfer of such material(s), and the UCSD Principal Investigator who developed the Material consents to the transfer and signs the QuickSend Agreement as the providing PI; and

    2. described in a publication more than twelve months ago.

  3. The Material is not:

    1. a mouse model, a mouse embryo, or a human embryonic stem cell line; nor

    2. a controlled substance containing pathogens or other harmful biological agents subject to special guidelines and/or procedures; nor

    3. described in, nor is part of, a previous Invention Disclosure that UC is protecting or has protected under one or more patents or pending patents; nor

    4. licensed by UC to another party exclusively.

If the Material you plan to send meets ALL of the above criteria, you may proceed and use the QuickSend Material Transfer Agreement by filling in all of the relevant information, including your signature.

What happens next? Once the QuickSend Material Transfer Agreement has been completed and signed by the providing UCSD Principal Investigator, as well as the recipient Principal Investigator, the material can be sent. In addition, the UCSD Principal Investigator should receive or request a copy of the executed agreement, once signed by all parties, and a copy should also be sent to Mail Code 0910 or by fax to 858-534-7345.
